The Apex Swim Team

Competitive swimming lets swimmers sharpen technique and build aerobic fitness in a regime that stresses discipline and constant personal improvement. Meets put those skills under real pressure — and the lessons learned matter more than the medals won.

How it started

Built by two coaches who raced

Calvin and Clarence both came up through competitive swimming, and wanted to carry that into the club they founded. The best swimmers were invited to a selection process testing skill proficiency, endurance, discipline and spirit. The swimmers who came through it formed the first Apex Swim Team in 2003.

Stress management, team dynamics, work ethic and dedication are all life skills that competitive swimmers take with them well beyond the pool.

Find the right level of commitment

Pre-Competitive

2–3 sessions / week

A year-round introduction to competitive swimming. Swimmers train in an environment that emphasises fun over competition — pressure kept to a minimum, non-qualifying meets and regional competitions, and team-building through friendship and group work.

Swimmers are not required to attend any swim meets at this level. Depending on personal goals and commitment, they can stay in this stream and compete recreationally regardless of age, or use the developmental progressions to master stroke proficiency and apply for the Apex Swim Team.

Apex Swim Team

Minimum 4 practices / week

The most elite athletes at Swim Apex. Admission is offered only to top-performing swimmers who have demonstrated the ability to train and swim to the highest standards, with the mindset to commit to a rigorous schedule.

Members hone technical competitive skills for invitational, provincial and national meets. The friendship and teamwork of the pre-competitive stream carries over, with greater emphasis on maximising each swimmer’s ability. Coaches tailor individual training plans to address weaknesses and build on strengths.

Attend as often as you like

Get wet, get fit. For swimmers aged 18 and over who like the idea of fitness or competitive swimming and can swim 200m in any stroke — novices and former competitive swimmers both welcome.

There is no requirement on the number of sessions you attend. The focus is health, wellness and stroke development.
